While all of our “in-house” tutors are fully booked, we do have referrals to external tutors that can help with a variety of subjects, including math (well beyond AP Calculus), lab sciences, ACT/SAT, and even extracurricular activities like USA Computing Olympiad, USA Biology Olympiad, Debate, Model UN, etc.

**Note that these tutors are not technically employed by EduAvenues. Each of them set their own rates, hours, and subjects. This is simply a list of tutors that our students have had a lot of success with in the past. EduAvenues does not make any professional guarantees, as these tutors are external.

Here is a list of our recommended external tutors:

• Varun Gannavarapu (vganpu@gmail.com): Varun has been tutoring in STEM subjects including math, physics, coding, SAT, and ACT for over 8 years now. He is an Electrical and Computer Engineering PhD candidate at Stanford University, and holds a M.S. in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering from Georgia Tech Engineering, with a B.S. from Purdue. He also graduated from TJHSST studying Computer Systems. Most recently, he held Software Engineering roles at MITRE and Capital One.

• Aanya Gupta (aanya.gupta30@duke.edu): Aanya will be studying Biomedical Engineering at Duke University, coming from TJHSST. She has been tutoring for over 2 years across a range of subjects and is ready to support students with their individual needs. She can help with the following subjects: SAT Math, ACT Math, Algebra 1/2, Precalculus, Calculus AB/BC, AP Physics 1, AP Physics C Mechanics and E&M, AP Computer Science, Statistics, Multivariable Calculus, Linear Algebra, and Psychology.
• Brian Oh (taehoon5050@gmail.com) earned a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Columbia University and a master’s degree in Business Research from Stanford University. As a graduate student at Stanford, he conducted research on topics ranging from labor market inequality to the impact of algorithmic systems on businesses. He has over two years of experience tutoring middle and high school students, specializing in SAT preparation and a wide range of AP subjects, including Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Psychology, Statistics, World History, and U.S. History. He is known for turning complex concepts into clear, approachable ideas while challenging students to think more critically. He believes that real improvement comes from understanding how to think, not just what to memorize. By building both confidence and intellectual curiosity, he helps students take ownership of their learning and achieve results that extend far beyond the classroom.
• Rae Trainer (rtrainer@college.harvard.edu): Rae is a TJHSST alum currently studying psychology and molecular biology at Harvard. She earned a 36 ACT and 5’s on seven AP exams. Rae has been tutoring for 7+ years, including three years at the TJ Writing Center and two at Harvard’s Academic Resource Center. Her specialty is tutoring in English, especially focusing on scientific writing, and literary analysis. She also tutors in Latin, biology, chemistry (organic and physical), statistics, and math subjects up to linear algebra.

• Samik Partha (samik.partha@gmail.com): Samik is a medical student at Washington University in St. Louis with a degree in Biochemistry and over five years of experience tutoring students across standardized tests and academic coursework. He specializes in MCAT preparation, SAT/ACT math, AP science courses, and building strong fundamentals for middle and high school students interested in STEM. Samik scored a 1570 on his SAT and has an MCAT of 525. Samik’s teaching style emphasizes deep conceptual understanding over memorization and helping students see why ideas work before applying them. He frequently draws out clear explanations and reinforces learning through guided practice and thoughtful problem-solving. • Charles Tang (charles06.tang@gmail.com): Charles is a student at Brown University studying Applied Mathematics. Charles has 4+ years of tutoring experience and can help in the following subjects: Math (K-12 + AP Calculus, Multivariable Calculus. • Matthew Kim (birdoo151@gmail.com): Matthew graduated Summa Cum Laude from Emory University with highest honors in Biology and Neuroscience, with a 1590 SAT score. Matthew found a love for teaching while working for a local tutoring company in high school and continued to tutor students for their SAT, ACT, and AP exams while in college. His approach to test taking is to use standardized testing strategies to create frameworks around questions, allowing students to make mental connections to answer similar questions faster and more accurately. Matthew understands the busy lives of students and wants to help them beat their exams through efficient, structured practice tools that they can use to approach any problem they may face as they continue with their education.

• Vikrant Mahajan (vikrant.mahajan24@gmail.com): Vik graduated from TJHSST and Vanderbilt University. He scored a 520 on his MCAT and has years of tutoring experience in lab sciences. • Grace Ann Brown (graceann2001@gmail.com): Grace Ann is a Northern Virginia native, having grown up in Arlington County Public Schools. She holds a degree in Cognitive Science with a concentration in Computer Science and a minor in French from the University of Virginia. Currently, she teaches high school science at a Title 1 school in North Carolina as a Teach For America corps member. • Daniel Mohr (daniel.mohr@gmail.com): Daniel Mohr, a University of Virginia graduate, specializes in German language tutoring. He has extensive experience working with native German speakers aged 6-14 and has a professional background in translation and interpretation. Daniel served as an Assistant in Ecumenical Relations at GEKE in Vienna, Austria, where he focused on interreligious dialogues. He is also a keynote speaker and has been featured in SAAT Magazine. Daniel offers tutoring in German language and literature, drawing from his rich academic and professional experience in a German-speaking environment.

• Khushbu Patel (khushbu_patel@brown.edu): Khushbu is a third-year in the eight-year Program in Liberal Medical Education (PLME) at Brown University, pursuing her Bachelor's in Biomedical Engineering and a certificate in Entrepreneurship. She enjoys helping her students and herself keep a strong foundation in biology, physics, and math, but also has a knack for creative writing and essays. He began tutoring during the pandemic over Zoom and quickly developed a passion for showing others the beauty of math. She is a native Spanish and English speaker who is also fluent in French. • Evan McHenry (evan.m.mchenry@gmail.com): Evan is a graduate of Brown University, where he earned degrees in English and Literary Arts. He is a writer and educator with a wide range of experience across creative, analytical, and journalistic forms of writing. In his teaching, Evan emphasizes balancing concision with deep critical inquiry, helping students strengthen their reading comprehension, argumentative writing, and linguistic precision. He has two years of experience tutoring peers in college level STEM courses and has one year of experience teaching Differential Equations, Linear Algebra, and Multivariable Calculus at the University of Washington. • Yue Liu (yue.liu@gwu.edu): Yue is a PhD student at The George Washington University and holds a Master’s degree from Teachers College, Columbia University. Her speciality is tutoring Chinese Language. Yue’s teaching philosophy centers on patience and adaptability, helping students build confidence while developing critical thinking skills. With her background in education and technology, she makes learning both accessible and inspiring.
• William Sun (williamsun0908@gmail.com): is a mathematics major student in Stony Brook University with research focus on algebra/number theory/arithmetic geometry. He scored 800/800 on the SAT math subject exam and 5/5 on AP Calculus BC at 10th grade of high school. He has taught Pre-Calculus, Calculus and Linear Algebra in the university classroom for 1 year, and has worked with 1-on-1 tutoring company for 2 years. He also lectured AMC/AIME competition material based on AoPS textbooks. William believes in motivating students to pursue deeper understanding in concepts, and he designs and collect problem sets to focus on what's really needed for different student's goals.
• Reyhan Haider (reyhan.haider@gmail.com): Reyhan is a student at Yale University studying Biology. Having recently navigated the college application process himself, he understands how the sheer volume of information available can create confusion about "what actually works."
